Fit4Life Grant Received by Coordinated School Health
Misi Rollins-Austin teaching health education to 5th graders
Good news was recently received from the Tennessee Department of Health. Through a grant submitted by Coordinated School Health, Bradley County Schools received a $250,000 Fit4Life Grant designated to help combat the rising occurrences of life-threatening illnesses among students due to increasing rates of obesity.
Through this Fit4Life program students at Lake Forest Middle School and its 7 feeder elementary schools will be targeted. These schools include Blue Springs Elementary, Black Fox Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary, Park View Elementary, Taylor Elementary, Valley View Elementary and Waterville Community Elementary School.
The main goal of Fit4Life is the promotion of good nutrition and prevention of pre-diabetes and/or diabetes. Students will be taught nutrition and wellness in the classroom using the research-based Michigan Model for Education. These classes will be taught by Shelley Tullier, Health Educator, and Misi Rollins-Austin, Program Nurse.
